Legal aid services differ in different countries around the world due to the fact that legal system will vary.   The following section will give you the basic overall view of what legal aid is all about:

What it involves?
Legal aid involves volunteers and/or government hired attorney and legal representative to provide legal service that assist people will advice relating to legal matters and/or legal representation in court if necessary. 

Who provides it?
Legal aid is provided by legal agencies, charity, organization, and/or corporation.  Many of these legal aid services will receive some subsides from the government, but some only operate solely on donation from the public.  Staffs who run them are volunteered attorneys, lawyers, and administrative supportive staff who have basic legal knowledge. 

Does it cost money?
In some countries the use of legal aid service is free, but usually for some eligibility requirements for legal aid applicant will need to fill out a detailed application form and go through the means test to see whether they qualify for free service.  Most applicants will have to pay a small contribution.  The amount will depend on result of the mean test and the area of law required.

Who can use it?
Anyone can apply for legal aid, but the mission of legal aid is to provide there service to the poor and the needy so that they get equal opportunity to being represented in their case.

Depending on where you live there should be a legal aid service in major cities and towns.  To find the closest one to you have a search on the internet or in the local phone book.
